A traditional friendly 17th Century Pub/Inn with restaurant and bed and breakfast en suite accommodation, family owned and personally run near to Newbury, Newbury racecourse and Hungerford. A quiet alternative to a hotel fo business visitors , the pub/inn is about 10 minutes from M4 juctions 13/14 , set in stunning countryside and yet also conveniently situated for Heathrow Airport, London, Oxford, Windsor and Bath. Bar Area The Inns ancient and unique charm can best be glimpsed in the bar area, the oldest part boasts a hugh ingenook fireplace and criss crossed beams. The bar has a fine selection of local and guest real ales, malt whiskies and good wines as well as free broadband access. Restaurant The Crown and Garter offers a delicious interesting variety of dishes all freshly prepared on the premises by our partner / chef using mainly local seasonal produce and can be enjoyed in either the cosy wood panelled restaurant and bar areas or outside on our patio or in our enclosed beer garden under ancient English oak. Bedroom Accommodation Eight Purpose built bedrooms surround a private very pretty cottage garden complete with pond. All the bedrooms are non smoking, very spacious with comfortable beds and tastefully dcorated. The rooms are all en-suite with power showers and well equipped with TV and video, tea / coffee making facilities and hairdryers. Leisure Activites For leisure visitors the inn is surrounded by beautiful countryside in which one can walk, cycle, ride, fish or just quietly relax, we are situated just 6 miles from Newbury Race Course. History In days gone by the Inn is reputed to have been a resting place for James 11 on his way to see one of his mistresses. The Inns Barn was also used to lay out the bodies of George Broomham and Dorothy Newman who were convcted of murder and hung at Combe Gibbet The Inn and bedrooms are constantly being upgraded

Take the A4 from either Newbury or Hungerford , half way along the A4 take the turning to Kintbury and Inkpen, follow the road into Kintbury and at the village store turn left onto the Inkpen road, follow this road for about two miles ( do not turn off ), following signs for Inkpen common, you will also see a brown sign for the Crown and Garter, at the common the signs will disappear keep going and you will come to the Crown and Garter on the left , we have a large car park at the rear of the Inn. |
