London Eye Provides Bird's Eye View of Famous London Landmarks

London AttractionsIf Italy has the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Paris has the Eiffel Tower, London has the British Airways London Eye to be proud of. What makes this London attraction different from other world-renowned landmarks is that visitors take not only a glimpse of the site—they can also take a ride and enjoy the stunning view of over 50 other landmarks in London such as the Houses of Parliament and the Westminster Abbey. In fact, this site is the most popular paid attraction in the United Kingdom, as it is visited by over three million people every year.

Launched in 1999, the London Eye is the biggest observation wheel in the world. It is situated on the south bank of the Thames River in the western part of Jubilee Garden. Established as part of the Millennium celebration, the wheel is sometimes called the Millennium Wheel. The high wheel stands at 443 feet and consists of 32 passenger capsules, with each having a capacity of 25 people. It is where people in London celebrate the New Year with fireworks coming from the wheel itself. London Eye is ideal for couples who are in for a romantic getaway. You can even take your fiancé there for a breath-taking and thrilling marriage proposal.

This famous London landmark opens daily at 10 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. during summer). Tourists can purchase walk-up tickets that are available at the London Eye’s ticket office on a first come, first served basis.
